Leonard Street Gallery in association with Eddie Lock presents LOVE OVER GOLD, an exhibition and installation by the acclaimed Goldie, which radiates with life and exposes a primal human truth. A meditation on obsessions resulting from the repression of our basic drives, the corruption of our spirits and the subsequent perversion of behaviour, Goldie presents the unspoken, unacknowledged truth of our lifestyles and culture forever ushered through the back door.
Goldie has been referred to as a cat with nine lives. Using a vast range of media to channel a relentless creative energy he has enjoyed a stratospheric ascent to stardom as an artist, DJ, actor and celebrity.
A renaissance man, Goldie made his name as an exceptionally skilled graffiti artist, turning his hand to a variety of art forms before becoming one of the most famous DJs in the world. Goldie’s ever-evolving perspective, honed from a turbulent personal journey, informs his work in every way, as a man consumed by creativity and the pursuit of truth.
As a pioneering force on the UK urban art scene in the early eighties, at a time when graffiti was far from the widely regarded art form it is today, Goldie forced the boundaries of public approval and continues to do so with his bold new body of work.
LOVE OVER GOLD challenges our ideas of sexuality, allure and desire, encouraging viewers to embrace their own aesthetic, fulfil their own ideal and accept sexuality as something beautiful and intrinsically human.
